What to call my MP4?

Since there is no verified brand name for these little wonderful MP4's, I would like to propose a few:
  • MiniPod (that's what I call mine)
  • pimp PMP
  • Video Ipod Nano
  • diminutive doodad
  • MyMiniMovie

I'm sure you've got some better ones, please comment!

DMVconvert video converting software by Stefan Burger

DMVconvert [1.337 KB]

Version 5.0
DMVconvert is a tool to convert video files from mpeg1,
mpeg2 and avi format to the proprietary formats mtv and dmv. Those formats are
supported by some of the latest mp3-players from far east. It was necessary to
write that tool as some of those mp3 players are delivered without any
conversion software.

Thanks for programming this Stefan! I'll try it out when I get my player.

Creative not being creative?

Creative is going to start selling a MP4 player that looks very similar to our MP4 players. It's called the MuVo vidz, but what's better about it? It can actually play MP4 format videos. That means 8 hrs of video on a 1gb!

Looks like some of the higher end manufacturers have taken intrest in the mini MP4 player scene. So where's the Nano Video Ipod?

Added new template and title pic!

I changed the template to a better one so I could have my own title picture; hosting thanks to imageshack!! - very useful, bookmark it!

Estimating for my MP4/MTV to come tomorrow or Tuesday

The eBay seller crtech has failed to send me a tracking number after multiple requests, but I'm estimating that my MP4/MTV player will arrive either tomorrow or Tuesday; having purchased it just last Tuesday.

When it does come, be prepared for a lot of pictures and a fairly large product review.

Found two product reviews!!!

After days of searching, I have come across to product reviews for a very similar product to the MP4 player that I bought (which still hasn't come in the mail btw). This particular product is manufactured by i.perris and both the reviews are favorable:

Worth the money (4 out of 5)
I'm happy to say that there have been some firmware revisions since the last review, and certain functions (fm radio) have been improved. Reading of .txt files has also been added to this player. If you buy from newegg it will come with a very handy USB to AC wall adapter so that you can charge without needing a computer (wish they advertised that). The screen is amazing, and the general interface is good. The build quality is excellent although the rubber mini-usb cover is annoying and can be problematic. The supplied headphones are so-so but I consider that to be a non-issue (I hate earbuds in general). The movie function could be fun if the conversion software worked - this is my biggest complaint. Otherwise I have to say that this is well worth the money, I've been using it for a few weeks and am very very happy. If I.perris had a better software suite and manufactured a 1 or 2 gig version in the same form factor I would consider it to be the best flash-based mp3 player on the market.

Ultimate Gadget with childhood problems (Also 4 out of 5)
Got my Paradise about 3 days ago - so far I am very impressed with it.The unit however has lots of childhood problems which hopefully are gonna be fixed in future updates. Unit feels pretty solid and performs overall as advertised. The videos have a tendency to lose sync with the sound. Display just plain rocks. Would not give it to my mother, but the geek should appriciate the unit, especially for this price!

Vibrant OLED screen!

As you may not have known, these mp4 players have an OLED display rather than the most common LCD. I've never seen an OLED before, but online pictures show that it is probably a bit more pixely but it doesn't look washed out at all; it has a lot of contrast and is very vibrant.

AD POSTING IN COMMENTS

Lately there has been a lot of ad posting in my comments. If this continues to happen, I will be forced to take further action. DON'T POST ADS IN MY COMMENT SECTION!!!
I've been forced to ad word verification to the comment section in order to prevent this from happening.

I found out more info on my MP4 player! I was searching around and I found that my player is manufactured by a Chinese company called hyfai. My product is: Huayue MP4 ¨C F2288 Code f2288. There are currently no updates for it on the website, but it helps alot to have someone to contact for product information and customer service.

I just bought a 1GB Chinese MP4 player from eBay for $85. I got it mostly for playing mp3's, but the color OLED display and additional ability to play movies, view pictures and read text files was rather appealing; I couldn't pass up this little device.
There are many of these Chinese MP4 players being sold on eBay and I managed to find the cheapest one being offered as buy it now. The seller has many more if you are interested.
Before I jumped into making a purchase, I tried to do a bit of research. With the lack of a brand name or manufacturer, this deemed very difficult. But after searching a bit on google, I managed to find a forum devoted to Chinese mp4 players: forum devoted to mp4 players.
On the forum I learned that these players don't play MP4 format videos, but MTV format; which is entirely different. MTV format was made with the idea that you have a picture viewer and an MP3 player, so why can't it be a movie player? Basically it flips through pictures really fast while at the same time playing mp3 audio. This means that the video cannot be compressed; making for rather large file sizes. Also, the audio is hardly ever in sync with the video.
Some people were complaining that the audio was fuzzy and hard to understand, although others said that their audio was just fine. One person complained that his battery life was terrible while others claimed that theirs lasted hours. While all of them complimented on the quality of playing mp3's (which is the main reason why I purchased mine). So really, your results depend on the specific player you get.
On top of that, many people were wanting to update their firmware. I got rather confused with all of the firmware stuff, but I'm not planning un updating mine because of the high risk factor. Many people updated their players with the wrong firmware and their players are now unusable. I'll only resort to updating firmware if it is absolutely necessary.

So that's all I know. I'll keep y'all updated. There will be many pics when I get my player; I can't wait!!!
